This book, although it has been published anonymously, is known to have been written by the Abbé Aimé Guillon de Montléon (1758–1842), a controversial anti-revolutionary writer, theologian, and historian. It tells the story of the siege of Lyon from an unashamedly royalist view, and is openly hostile to the Revolution.

Marmontel (1723-1799) was a French poet, encyclopediste, dramatist, novelist and critic, who came under threat during the Revolution. The books, a re-issue of the 1777original, are dated Year 3 of the Republic, and neither printer or publisher are named
